Bouncing Blocks Brooklyn

A public art installation proposal for NYC focused on community interaction and reinforcement

Project Summary

For my digital modeling class, I was tasked with developing a public art installation proposal for NYC which I had to model and render using Fusion 360. My proposal was to install huge inflatable bouncy houses around NYC that would surround entire blocks. During the summer weekends, these inflatables scattered around some of the city’s neighborhoods would connect parts of two avenues with their two adjacent streets, surrounding entire blocks. The immensity of these installations changes the sight of the landscape in which they occur. It makes the audience reconsider those particular spaces, prompting communities to perceive them in a fresh light. These installations allow the residents of neighborhoods as well as passersby to experience familiar landscapes in a novel manner. The inflatables change our physical and visual experience of city blocks. The inflatables offer a new way for passersby to appreciate the blocks. I aim to create new experiences from landscapes that we don’t pay attention to anymore, to renew our interest and connection with longstanding areas. The inflatables reinforce a sense of community, interaction, playfulness, and childhood around the "surrounded" blocks.
